Freed U.S. POWs Reach Germany

Sent in by Veterans News and Information Services

RAMSTEIN, Germany (AP) - Three U.S. soldiers held in captivity by Yugoslav authorities for more than a month were released and left Yugoslavia Sunday. Holding hands with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, they walked into neighboring Croatia chanting "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, free at last!"

The soldiers arrived Sunday afternoon at the U.S. military base in Ramstein in southwest Germany on a C-9 military plane. A color guard with flags and a 27-man honor platoon, dressed in full combat gear from the soldiers' own division, greeted them on the tarmac at the air base along with a crowd of about 200 well-wishers holding U.S. flags and big "Welcome Home" signs. The arrival ended 32 days in captivity.
