VA's Performance Plan Submitted to Congress
Sent in by Veterans News and Information Services

Washington, D.C. -- Secretary of Veterans Affairs Togo D. West Jr. today announced the release of VA's Departmental Performance Plan, an integral part of the FY 2000 budget submission that details performance targets and major service improvements.

The performance plan outlines how VA will measure its improvements in the quality and timeliness of compensation and pension claims processing; the quality of veterans' health care; and the delivery of goods and services to veterans.

"The performance plan and the budget present a comprehensive picture of what VA is striving to achieve, how we propose to measure progress and the resources required for accomplishing our goals and objectives in delivering quality care and timely benefits to the nation's veterans," said Secretary West.

The plan presents performance measures used to track progress toward achieving priorities. It incorporates suggestions from key stakeholders; emphasizes outcomes; discusses data validation and verification methods; and identifies the total budgetary resources (both staffing and funding) for VA programs.
