The Sea
"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it's because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it's because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea--whether it is to sail or to watch it--we are going back from whence we came."---President John Fitzgerald Kennedy 1962

"Independence Day"
The Fourth of July

The theme of this month's edition of the "The Moonduster Chronicles" is in honor of the Fourth of July. For America, it's the day we celebrate our independence from the British. It marks the day America became "The Land of the Free, and the "Home of the Brave " back in 1776. However, for many people being 'Free' means more than just being self-governed and self-reliant. Since joining Operation Just Cause, it has numerous meanings for me.

The members of the Armed Forces are the ones who have kept America Free. They served their country with pride, duty, and honor. Most especially I would like to thank those individuals who are still fighting, those who are missing and unaccounted for.

In addition, there will be a section dedicated to a very special man. He was a member of the Armed Forces, a POW, and a man dedicated to his country, up until the day he passed away.

That man's name is Ted Guy.

Colonel Theodore Guy was laid in his final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery, on Friday, June 18th. Several members of Operation Just Cause were there to pay their final respects to Colonel Guy. They were gracious enough to share their memories of that day with all of us. Their stories made me feel as though I had been there to say goodbye.

I found the following quote from my favorite artist. I think that Mr. Van Gogh was speaking about that special group of people who made it possible for us to eat hotdogs, watch the parades and the fireworks on the Fourth of July. I think he was referring to our Veterans.

"Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling."
--Vincent Van Gogh

For Operation Just Cause Webring Members

This is a message from the Webring Team at OJC. It is for those of you with webpages in the OJC Webring. On the last run of webchecking sites within the OJC Webring, the Webcheck Team found quite a few pages that were not valid URL's. If all of you with a page in the OJC Webring would take a few minutes and check your URL against the one submitted to the OJC Webring, it would be a big help.

Also, if you could check the HTML within the OJC webring code on your Adopted POW pages, that would be great. If you happen to receive a "File Not Found" or an "Oops, We Couldn't Find" message when you click "Next", "Previous", etc., please send an email to:

opjc@hotmail.com  with "OJC Ring" in the Subject.

Also For Operation Just Cause Webring Members
    Please remember that:

  • The link (URL) for your site goes to the page referenced in (C), below;

And for AOL Users, Some Webpage Help
    Sent in Kelley

I am an AOL user and I was trying to follow your directions concerning "turning of your graphics compression." and it did not work that way for me. After banging my head for awhile, I think I figured it out. I believe that your directions are accurate for earlier versions of AOL preferences. The latest version is different.

Here is what I had to do.

    1. I clicked on "Members" ~ between "Mail" and "Window" in the title bar.
    A menu will drop down.

    2. I clicked on "Preferences" just below "My AOL".

    3. Now there is a box with Icons in it. Click on the "world icon" now. It has "WWW" underneath it.

    4. Now a "AOL Internet Properties" window pops up. Click on the "Web Graphics" tab. 5. There we are.... the elusive "Use compressed graphics box. Un-check the little box and we are on track. I hope this helps others with newer versions of AOL.

    Truly Sincere, Kelley

      Fourth of July Related Trivia

How'd the hot dog get its strange name?

    Answer:

The hot dog was originally called "frankfurter" after Frankfurt, Germany, its birthplace. But from the beginning people called it "dachshund sausage," because it looked like the long, thin dog.

In the US, the German sausage was especially popular with New York baseball fans, who bought the newfangled sandwich from vendors who sold them by yelling, "Get your dachshund sausages while they're red hot."

Ted Dorgan, a leading cartoonist, thought these vendors were so comical, that he decided to lampoon them. In his cartoon, they were shown selling REAL dachshund dogs in a roll, yelling "Get your hot dogs!" at each other. The name stuck, and the rest is history.

"Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others...he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." ...Robert Francis Kennedy (1925-1968)

There are ways for us to work together to start tearing down those 'mighty walls of oppression and resistance' and gain a full accountability of our POW/MIA's. Please feel free to browse through the following links to see what you can do to help.
