Saved By Love

Greetings

I thought that you might be willing to publish info in your newsletter about a new book that I just read (via a mutual friend of the Guarinos) written by Evelyn Guarino, wife of former POW Larry Guarino who spent 1965-1973 caged in the Hanoi Hilton.

Visit the following website:

Guarino

In SAVED BY LOVE, Evelyn writes about the challenges faced by the Guarino family during those years. A rare insight into the patriotism, challenges, frustrations, hope and love of a very special woman for a true American hero. A woman who "sat at home", but did more than just wait.

A book highly praised by the likes of Senator John McCain, New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and H. Ross Perot among others. It's a must read, in my humble opinion, not just by military families, but by all who are interested in another definition of the word "sacrifice."

Phone number is 1-800-624-0401 to purchase by credit card.

Cost is $14.95 & $3.50 p&h (6% tax for Florida residents).

Mailing address: Blue Note books
110 Polk Ave., Suite 3
Cape Canaveral, FL 32920.

Thank you for your consideration.

Traditional Nov. 11 Veterans Day Threatened

Subject: Traditional Nov. 11 Veterans Day Threatened
From: Col Klyne D. Nowlin, USAF (Ret)
Legislative Affairs Chairman, Florida Council of Chapters, TROA

Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee (TX) has proposed House bill H.R. 62 to amend title 5, United States Code, to establish election day in Presidential election years as a legal public holiday by moving the legal public holiday known as Veterans Day to election day in such years, and for other purposes.

If enacted this bill would allow Veterans Day to be moved from the traditional November 11th date during Presidential election years, or as stated for other purposes.

This tinkering with Veterans Day, a day established to honor and remember our veterans would set a precedence for moving Veterans Day for other occasions. If you disagree with this proposed legislation, you are encouraged to contact your representative.

A suggested letter is provided below for your use to contact your representative. Please feel free to modify the letter or prepare your own. Fill in your representative's name in the address and salutation sections and include your name and address, state and ZIP code at the bottom of the letter.

Suggested Letter for H.R. 62

The Honorable................
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative.............,

I am writing to ask you to oppose Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee's (TX) H.R. 62, Establishment of Election Day in Presidential Election Years as a Legal Public Holiday. Representative Jackson-Lee proposes, as stated in the bill, "To amend title 5, United States Code, to establish election day in Presidential election years as a legal public holiday by moving the legal public holiday known as Veterans Day to election day in such years, and for other purposes."

If enacted this bill would allow Veterans Day to be moved from traditionally observed November 11th during Presidential election years, or as stated, "for other purposes."

This tinkering with Veterans Day, a sacred day established to honor and remember our veterans, would set a precedent for changing Veterans Day for other occasions/purposes.

Veterans Day is an all important day for remembering our military veterans, particularly those who sacrificed their lives for this great country. Allowing Veterans Day to be changed would diminish the importance of this day of observance. Please do not allow Veterans Day to be tinkered with for other purposes.

Respectfully,
Your Name
