USO Responds to Military Crisis in Kosovo
Sent in by Veterans News and Information Services

Special to the American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON -- USO Centers in Europe are increasing their services to accommodate the influx of service members deployed for NATO's Operation Allied Force in Yugoslavia.

At Ramstein Air Base, Germany, the USO is offering 24-hour assistance to military personnel, providing reading materials, videos, games, snacks, beverages and other comforts of home. Up to 15,000 service members are expected to pass through Ramstein during Allied Force.

Other European USO centers such as those in Taszar, Hungary, and Stuttgart, Germany, are preparing to provide around-the-clock service to the men and women in uniform, distributing care packages and Girl Scout cookies to help boost morale.

The USO is also sending celebrity entertainment to the region. Country artist Paul Brandt is expected to entertain service members in Bosnia. In addition, a USO Comedy Break Tour, featuring veteran USO entertainers Jeff Capri, Derrick Cameron and Gary Brightwell, will visit air bases in the United Kingdom that are participating in Operation Allied Force.

The USO relies on donations to provide services to the armed forces. For more information on contributing to the USO, call (800) USO-SHOW or visit the USO Web site at www.uso.org.

In addition, letters of support to troops serving in the Balkans can be sent to:
