Operation Just Cause

The Fourth of July
by Katy Miller

Recently I traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia. One of the oldest cities in America and a city that is less than 3 hours from our Nations Capitol. I went there looking for a wonderful 4th of July weekend. I met Dan, the man I am dating there, and we had with us Two small American Flags and one very large MIA/POW Flag. We set up camp and traveled the area. Personally I was very disappointed in what I saw, in the camp ground as well as the area that surrounded our visit. I did not see very many American Flags waving in the wind and the only MIA/POW Flag to be found was at our camp site.

The thoughts that ran through my head were this: have we forgotten what our ancestors have done for us? Doesn't the American Flag still stand for freedom? Are we taking for granted the freedom our for fathers fought for, including our parents, grandparents and so on? Are we forgetting the MIA/POW's who are not home yet to enjoy the freedoms we live each day?

It was then I decided to pay closer attention to what I saw as I traveled back home. It was then I noticed that, to my dismay, very few American Flags were being flow and I did not see one MIA/POW flag being displayed. My heart sank at this discovery. It is our honor to remind those who live and work around us that we still have men and women away from their homes. It is our duty as Americans to fly our flag Proudly. I will not plead or beg for this to be done. I am simply asking humbly, Please let us not forget!

Sincerely
Katy (Kathy) Miller
